Did A Flying Saucer Land Outside Of Las Vegas In 1998?

I was featured as the guest on Andrew Hall’s interactive show “Dead Hand” on April 27, 2021 and I was asked about a UFO encounter that I personally experienced back when I was a child that I’ve been thinking about and I thought I would share this with you all. The incident is amongst one of the strangest and most puzzling things I’ve ever experienced in my life. I forgot all about it until the experience came up during Andrew’s interview with me the other day honestly. It just so happens that the event is UFO-related…

The event takes place back in 1998 when I was 8 years old on a Cub Scout camping trip called “Mom And Me.” The purpose of the trip was to stay on Mount Potosi at a Boy Scout camp with your mother and do various activities. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the southern Nevada area, Mount Potosi is a semi-remote mountain located along route 160 just outside of Las Vegas. At the current time there are no houses on the mountain (even though they are planning on building them now) and the closest civilization is the small community of Mountain Pass or Blue Diamond, Nevada some miles away. Mount Potosi is a abundant with Pine trees, hiking trails, and plenty of wildlife. Picture a stereotypical summer camp in the mountains and that’s the setting of the encounter.

On one particular night the special event was a night hike to an outside sky watching area where we would view all of the planets in the solar system using a local guide. All twenty kids and their mothers were walking down the trail (I know there were 20 kids because my mom was one of the event hosts) 2 x 2 or 4 x 4 with my mom and another pair walking slowly beside us in the back of the group. The main pack of individuals was a fair distance away when my mom pointed out something odd in the tree line.

All 4 of us stopped and looked off into the tree line in the direction that my mom was pointing and you could see what looked like a dull-colored egg on stilts. The object appeared to be about the side of a regular sized sedan and it was perfectly oval (like an egg). I remember that you could clearly see the moonlight shining off of it through the trees. What struck me as odd even at the time was that the object had a sharp point sticking out of the side. The only thing that I can compare it to is the bow of a boat. The object was no farther than 30 or 40 feet away. We stopped and looked at the object for a few minutes and continued on our way down the trail.

About 20 or 30 minutes later all of the scouts and their moms arrived at the overlook / planet viewing location. The guide pointed to several planets and various constellations and told us kids various stories about them. I’d say it was around 10:00 or 11:00 P.M. when we made our way back down the trail towards the mysterious object. Once again, my mom, myself, and another kid and his mom walked at the back of the group of scouts at a distance. When we got to the location of the object I could have sworn that it was still there. It appeared like it did before in the tree line; an oval shaped egg on stilts with a point coming out of the side.

The next morning was the event that all of us scouts were waiting for… bb-gun shooting! In order to get to the range we had to pass the location of the previous night’s “egg in the woods.” When we passed the location of the egg, the object was gone. I remember my mom telling me that it was gone and that there was no evidence of it ever having been there the night before. You couldn’t see any kind of obvious impressions or any explanation for what the object was, but it was gone.

To this day I still think of the incident from time to time. What exactly was the object? I don’t know. The only thing I can wrap my head around was that it was some kind of flying saucer. The Mount Potosi scout camp was semi-remote and there were no public roads and no way that any private vehicle could have reached that location without anyone seeing or hearing them. You would have to drive past the bunks and the multi-purpose room where we were spending most of our time in order to reach that location where the object was. What purpose would the object serve anyways? I can’t think of anything that would be that would be shaped like that or why it would be hidden so far from camp in the woods. It baffles me to this day.
